White Wax

White Wax

I picked up this hutch a few weeks ago and just knew I wanted to paint it blue.  Aubusson Blue Annie Sloan Chalk Paint to be exact.  I love the lines of this piece and with the fretwork & fancy legs I thought I would just paint it clean, no chipping and just hint of distressing on the edges.

When I finished painting and distressing it was pretty but it just didn't seem done.  I should know myself by now I rarely paint anything clean.  I left it for a week to think about it.

The next week I taught a paint class featuring Milk Paint and so I picked up some Miss Mustard Seed White Wax for the class to play with.  Loved it.  I just happened to be using blue as a sample color and when I tried the white wax over it I just knew I had to try it on my hutch.

To apply the white wax I used a chip brush to get it into all the details.

Then I used a rag to wipe away the excess.  Just like you would with a glaze.

If I took too much off I just added more.  If too much remained after wiping away I used some of MMS furniture wax to help remove it.  Miss Mustard Seeds White Wax is so creamy that it is really very easy to use and very forgiving.  I have mixed my own white wax before using different brands of wax and didn't really like the results.  I found them to be thick and hard to work with.

After the coat of white wax dried I went over everything again with furniture wax.  The White Wax comes in a small container and I used about a quarter of a container on this piece.

I love the way the White Wax brings out all the details and it was so much easier then painting all that with a tiny artists brush. I'm hooked.

Have you tried it yet?
