Antique Writing Desk (that I'm in love with)

His name is Ben's desk.  I told my friend Alison that I swear it could have belonged to Benjamin Franklin and so she named him Ben's desk.

(here he is with his top open enjoying the outdoors)

I bought him to resell.  It was never my intention to paint him just leave him as he is.  I could have taken him to the shop over a week ago.  I just wasn't ready to let him go yet.  I wanted to look at him for awhile.

I'll admit I don't know a lot about antiques.  Age, style, that stuff doesn't stick in my brain.  I just know what I like.  All the little details that make furniture unique and beautiful.

Those legs.  Looks like someone hand chiseled them or at least used a primitive lathe.

That joinery detail.

The patina.  You can't replicate that time worn finish.  (If you can send me a tutorial please) Somewhere along the line someone painted him navy blue then someone else decided to strip him back to his former glory.

And he came with this little chair.

I love Ben's desk.

If only I had a place for him.  This piece is gonna haunt me.

Do you have any pieces you've sold then totally regretted?  I'd love to know.
