My New Coffee Table


I didn't even know I needed a new coffee table.  (I do however know that I need a new couch) Not until this table was finished and it told me it wanted to be mine.  I had intended to paint it and sell it at my space at Abundance Vintage but it's perfect for us.   Truthfully I was concerned it might not sell because it is kind of tall.  The height however turns out to be exactly why I want to keep it.  


The first reason the height works so well is my Hubby and I typically eat our dinner on the couch in front of the TV. Unless it's our anniversary than we use the dining table.  Having the table a little higher actually feels more comfortable.  You can never be to comfortable while eating at the couch.  Second we often use the coffee table as a desk.  We have an office but the desk always seems to be covered with my projects.   Even when it's not we both prefer to do out work at the coffee table.  I do all my blogging from the corner of that couch.   


The paint I used is Miss Mustard Seed Milk Paint. The color is Luckett's Green.  Love this color green.  I decided to use the bonding agent because the finish on this table was a very glossy orangey stained wood.  Since I used the bonding agent there wasn't any chipping or flaking but the paint distressed nicely with 150 grit sandpaper.  I sealed the paint with minwax clear wax first then added some dark wax.  I mentioned on facebook that this color, Luckett's Green, looks like a yellow beige before you add water.  When I opened the box I thought there was a mistake.  I was so upset because I wanted to use it right away.  I called the seller and she assured me I just needed to add water.  I felt like such a dork.  I know that the colors change when you add water but it was not even green who knew?  Just wanted to warn you so you don't freak out like me. 
   

The table opens and it had a leaf that folded out.  The veneer was very badly damaged so I ended up removing it.  Since I had planned on selling the table I realized it would not be cost effective to fix.  I kept all the parts so if I feel froggie I might repair it for myself someday. 



I love the trestle base.  My tiny ugly upholstered foot stool that I am not showing you fits perfectly underneath.  

I know that rule number one in this business is don't keep what you are supposed to sell but just this once I can right?
