Choosing the Right Pillow size
Pillows are not just functional—they're key design elements that can elevate the look and feel of your space. Pillows that are too large can overpower smaller furniture, while those too small can get lost on larger pieces. Here's a guide to selecting the ideal pillow sizes for sofas, chairs, and loveseats.
Pillows for Sofas
Standard Sofas: For a three-seater, 18x18 or 20x20 inch pillows work best. These sizes provide balance without overwhelming the sofa. For a layered look, combine larger pillows (22x22 or 24x24 inches) with smaller ones in front (like 18x18 inches).
Sectional Sofas: Larger sectionals can accommodate bigger pillows—opt for 22x22 or 24x24 inch pillows. For the corners, oversized pillows (up to 26x26 inches) can add comfort. A long lumbar pillow (12x24 or 16x36 inches) in the center can break up the symmetry and create visual interest.
Loveseats: Smaller loveseats pair well with 16x16 or 18x18 inch pillows, offering comfort without overwhelming the space. Two to three pillows are typically enough to maintain a balanced look.
Pillows for Chairs
Armchairs: For standard armchairs, a single 16x16 or 18x18 inch pillow offers the right balance of comfort and scale. Adding a lumbar pillow (12x20 inches or 16x24 inches) provides extra lower back support while enhancing the design.
Design Tip: Stick to one or two pillows for armchairs to keep them functional and inviting. For a decorative touch, mix patterned pillows with solid or textured ones for added visual appeal.
